100 Years of Quantum

About

UC San Diego is proud to host Qiskit Fall Fest 2025, supported by IBM Quantum. This event is part of a worldwide, student-led celebration of quantum computing that takes place every Fall.

In 2025, we mark one hundred years since the foundations of quantum mechanics were established (1925–1926). Over the past century, the field has advanced from its theoretical origins to the development of utility-scale quantum hardware and software, with quantum advantage anticipated as early as 2026.

At UCSD, Fall Fest will feature hands-on presentations, workshops, and hackathons tailored to different interests and experience levels. Students will use Qiskit, IBM’s open-source SDK, to build and run quantum circuits on real devices. Participants will have the opportunity to join in person or virtually and earn an official IBM Quantum badge.
